We were asked what we could do to this Grade 2 listed Barn in the back garden of our client’s home. The barn was built originally as a kitchen when the house was a public house and local regulations, required it outside. It laid derelict for many years, and we provided suggestions for its use, including this modern extension, sensitively separated from the existing building with a glazed strip.
The proposals included rainwater collection, photovoltaics and solar thermal panels to make the building truly self-contained. The original barn would be sensitively restored and insulated to provide a living area using natural breathable materials.
