Meet the Team – Lucy
Next up in our Meet the Eco Design Consultants Team series is Lucy. Lucy joined us in October 2024, so this seems like the perfect opportunity to introduce and welcome her to the team! She has many years experience working as an architect in both the residential and small-commercial sectors. Below she has given us a little insight below in to her passions and interests that she’s bringing with her.
What made you want to join Eco Design Consultants Team?
A long-term interest in low energy design, coupled with an interest in being involved in a process – the Passivhaus design process – which delivers on the design promises and actually reduces operational energy.
What is the biggest/most important thing you’ve learnt in your time at Eco Design Consultants?
That for low-energy design to work most effectively, it needs to be embedded in the design from an early stage. It is not added on as a nice-to-have post-planning.
What part of the design process are you particularly passionate about?
How Passivhaus design can become part of the overall design and contribute to a well designed building, which is not defined by its low-energy credentials, but is enhanced by them.
Does this follow through to your hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy reading about the latest changes in low-energy technology, and attending courses in the field.
Who inspires you (personally or professionally)?
I am impressed with how many local councils are embracing the retrofit approach in their approach to social housing, in an aim to reduce fuel poverty. I believe this knowledge will trickle down to the private sector and mass-building sector in due course. This is something that the whole of society will benefit.
What type of projects would you like to be working on in 5 years’ time?
I would enjoy working on larger-scale low-energy housing. So do get in touch if you would like support on this type of project.
