Architectural Assistant (Part 1) – Sustainable Design

Job Summary

Eco Design Consultants is seeking a Part 1 Architectural Assistant to join our Milton Keynes studio. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate seeking to develop a career in sustainable architecture, low-energy design and Passivhaus.

You will support the delivery of environmentally responsible, high-performance buildings, working across multiple RIBA stages within a collaborative and design-led team.

About Eco Design Consultants

We are a UK-based architectural practice specialising in low-energy, sustainable buildings, with a strong focus on Passivhaus design and building performance. Based in the grade 2 listed Pavilions within Manor Park, Great Linford, Milton Keynes, we deliver thoughtful, technically robust architecture across a range of sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and develop architectural drawings, 3D models and visualisations
  • Assist with design development across RIBA Plan of Work stages 1–5
  • Support the preparation of planning applications and technical documentation
  • Contribute to sustainable design strategies and environmental analysis (including PHPP exposure)
  • Attend design team meetings, site visits and project reviews
  • Coordinate information with consultants and project teams
  • Maintain accurate project records and support quality assurance processes

Required Skills and Experiences

Essential

  • RIBA Part 1 Architectural Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
  • Strong interest in sustainable architecture / low-energy building design
  • Ability to produce high-quality CAD drawings and visual material
  • Understanding of UK Building Regulations and construction methods (graduate level)
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Collaborative, proactive and detail-oriented approach

Desirable

  • Experience with ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, SketchUp or BIM software
  • Knowledge of Passivhaus, PHPP or environmental modelling tools
  • Experience (academic or placement) across RIBA Stages 3–6
  • Model-making skills (digital)
